About the Glebe Mountain Group

The Glebe Mountain Group (GMG) is a voluntary association of residents and property owners in the Glebe Mountain (Londonderry/Windham) region of Vermont .

The Glebe Mountain Group was formed to protect and preserve the fragile high elevation habitat and ridge line of Glebe Mountain from industrial development.

We believe that the proposed Catamount-Marubeni industrial wind facility could not be built if it had to meet Act 250 (land use) requirements. We believe that a project using 19 turbines 420 feet high along 3.7 miles of fragile ridge line would cause irreparable harm to the forest, wildlife, birds.bats and water found on the mountain and would harm the economic fabric and and rural character of the area.

The Glebe Mountain ridge line stands alone above the valley floor as the most dominant feature of the regional landscape, visible from scenic corridors, protected areas and village centers

Several other prominent Vermont ridge lines have been targeted by developers for future construction and installation of wind generation facilities.

The commercial development of Vermont mountain ridge lines for wind power is contrary to decades of Vermont public policies designed to protect fragile high elevation habitats, preserve important scenic resources, promote tourism, and maintain Vermont 's special reputation as a place of unparallel beauty.

Glebe Mountain Group believes that wind power must be placed in perspective and analyzed in the Vermont context. Research undertaken by Glebe Mountain Group demonstrates that wind power has minimal benefits for Vermont and that such projects are likely to have a profound adverse impact on the environmental protection and economic health of our state.

Wind power developers should have the burden to demonstrate that there is a compelling reason to sacrifice mountain ridge lines for an energy source of limited potential, especially if the wind is not sold in Vermont.
